School Watch on OWL.co.uk

All schools / All phases / All school staff including teachers and non teaching staff

Dear Schools,

I am PC Neil Rogers, I’m the officer leading Enfield’s collaboration with OWL (Online Watch Link).

For those of you unaware of what OWL is, it is a dedicated website for Neighbourhood watches and also for improved communication between the public and police. I have attached a Powerpoint on OWL to give you a better understanding of how it works for the masses.

The reason I am writing to you is because there is an opportunity on OWL for all schools in Enfield to be attached to School Watch. School watch on OWL is simply a school version of neighbourhood watch, whereby alerts can be sent straight to your email address from the police or the council to inform you all of any issues that has arisen, any possible future problems that you need to be aware of, any campaigns that we think are suitable for schools to publicise to the students and parents, anything that is school related.

The great thing about this system is that every staff member in the school can be added to your schools address on OWL using their school email address so that the message coming through from the police or council will reach every member of staff in the school so that everyone is informed of the information at the same time. It saves one person having to relay messages sent in from the police or council to all staff and can free up their time doing other things.

It is a simple process to sign up, simply send me the email address for one person in the school that you would like to have the power to oversee the people in your school via OWL. This one person will then be given the power to add new occupants to the school address, like the other teachers and staff so that you can control everyone who receives the messages within the school.

Once this person is chosen I will send out a page long document to them so that they know exactly how to do the above job. Once people are all signed up to your school then it’s just a case of deleting people when they leave the school and adding new people when they join, so it’s important to keep your list up to date to ensure everyone relevant gets the messages. Obviously any messages that contain sensitive information will be sent to individuals instead.

As well school watch, if you wanted to see what is happening in your local area you can instantly join up to your local Neighbourhood watch and receive emails regarding local issues to your school.

If you have any questions regarding OWL or School watch then please do not hesitate to contact me on neil.rogers2@met.police.uk although please bear in mind that I will be on Paternity Leave and Annual leave from May 9th till June 14th so questions will be promptly answered before May 9th and after June 14th.

Thank you very much for reading and hope to see you on OWL soon.

Kind regards

PC Neil Rogers 2159NA
