The Difference Inclusive Leadership Course, Sep 2021

FAO: Primary and Secondary Headteachers

We know that vulnerable children have had the toughest time during the pandemic, and that the school leaders who serve them are focused on getting them back to learning and thriving in school.

This year the Violence Reduction Unit has collaborated with specialist school leadership charity The Difference to support headteachers with the challenges facing vulnerable young Londoners.

The Difference runs an Inclusive Leadership Course, which has worked to date with over 90 mainstream assistant heads, deputy heads and headteachers in primary and secondary schools. I thought you might want to share details of this professional development with your local schools and teaching hubs.

Using materials and learning from the Inclusive Leadership Course, school leaders have seen lower persistent absenteeismbetter behaviour de-escalation and fewer fixed term exclusions as a result of the whole-staff work they have led.

This week The Difference have opened applications for the Sept 2021 Inclusive Leadership Course and hope to connect with headteachers keen to join a growing movement of school leaders committed to changing outcomes for vulnerable learners.

The Difference is already working with local authorities across the country. For example, last year they worked very closely with Cheshire West and Chester to successfully translate and embed their inclusion strategy, “Our Ways of Working” into schools; and this year they are developing a closer partnership with Hackney. The Programme Director Shaun Brown would welcome an email or a phone call if you would like to discuss an LA-wide collaboration with The Difference.
