Request for Help with Short Breaks for SEND pupils

The Joint Service for Disabled Children (JSDC), based at Cheviots Children’s Disability Centre, is asking for help from schools in the Borough to allow provision of playschemes during the school holidays – and potentially Saturday sessions – for Enfield’s disabled children and young people.

Traditionally, Enfield’s special schools have allowed use of their facilities, with the Joint Service for Disabled Children covering the cost of caretaker overtime, etc. However, with many of the special schools now providing their own playschemes, it is difficult to find venues for those children with SEND who cannot attend and may be missing out on a similar Short Break.

I’d be grateful if any schools/similar venues that could help by providing some indoor and outdoor space during school holidays for up to 20 children and young people with SEND, could contact me. We are looking for some indoor space (perhaps a hall), some outdoor playing space and access to toilets. Access to a kitchen would be helpful. The Joint Service for Disabled Children would be pleased to pay for any additional requirements, such as caretaker overtime, but it would be helpful if use of the venue could be provided free/at low cost to the Service.

As most of our SEND children are located within the east of the Borough (EN3 and N9 for example), venues in this area would be particularly useful, but all help is welcomed.

Please contact me if you would like to discuss further.

Many thanks,

Caroline Fanning, SEND Commissioner
