Government Guidance Updates

Over this last weekend the government issued and update guidance to schools. One of the problems I find is that they just update the text on the webpages, but the government don't really tell you what the change is.

UPDATED Guidance for schools, childcare providers, colleges and local authorities in England on maintaining educational provision

Read the 'Guidance for schools, childcare providers, colleges and local authorities in England on maintaining educational provision' here:
https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-maintaining-educational-provision/guidance-for-schools-colleges-and-local-authorities-on-maintaining-educational-provision

NEW Coronavirus (COVID-19): SEND risk assessment guidance

This guidance advises local authorities to conduct risk assessments and makes suggestions and recommendations for how that might be done in collaboration with educational settings and parents.

This guidance document relates particularly to children and young people whose need for hands-on care or whose behaviours mean that there are more, or more nuanced, risks to be managed than for the majority of children and young people with EHC plans.

NEW Safeguarding and remote education during Coronavirus (gov.uk)

The government has published guidance to schools about managing remote learning during this critical period. The guidance considers six main areas:

  • Safeguarding pupils and teachers online
  • Reporting concerns
  • Communicating with parents, carers and pupils
  • Virtual lessons and live streaming
  • Providing pastoral care remotely
  • Personal data and GDPR

Below is a  short video (6 minutes) explaining the key areas which you can watch here:

UPDATED Supporting vulnerable children and young people during the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak (gov.uk)

The government has updated its guidance around vulnerable children.

There are now further clarifications to the existing guidance including the actions to be taken for the different groups of vulnerable children around their attendance or otherwise at an education setting. The groups included in the definition of vulnerable children have not changed.

The guidance can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-guidance-on-vulnerable-children-and-young-people/coronavirus-covid-19-guidance-on-vulnerable-children-and-young-people
