Aims

To provide an overview of duties, roles and responsibilities required for good practice and compliance with legal requirements in health and safety.

Overview

This introductory session outlines duties, roles and responsibilities required for good practice, meeting legal requirements in health and safety management as part of a schools overall management system. It covers areas of ensuring provision of a suitable and sufficient health and safety management together with the need for competent advice and support and how to achieve these. Topics briefly covered to provide an overview will be:
  •    Management roles
  •    Responsibilities
  •    Risk Management and assessment
  •    Legal duties
  •    Business Continuity
  •    Safety Management Systems
Where a suitable and sufficient safety management is not in place there will be clear failings in meeting legal requirements and hence considerable exposure to risk of prosecution to individuals and the organisation. Furthermore, there is additional exposure to the cost of expensive litigation.
