Aims

To equip delegates from any setting with the necessary knowledge and skills to enable them to:

  • Plan and facilitate P4C successfully
  • Encourage high-quality dialogue and reasoning
  • Use P4C flexibly to support the delivery of the whole curriculum
  • Deepen students’ understanding of key concepts and how to formulate questions
  • Develop learners’ personal, social and intellectual skills and virtues

Overview

P4C is an approach to teaching and learning that is focused on developing critical, creative, caring and collaborative thinking, principally through the development of classroom (and beyond) communities of enquiry.  First developed over 50 years ago by Professor Matthew Lipman, it is now practised in over 60 countries and is one of the most enduring education practices around.  It is relevant to every sector of education, helping children and young people become more thoughtful, more reflective, more considerate and more reasonable individuals.

All delegates will receive a comprehensive range of resources and support materials and can be connected, if wished, to the international community of P4C practitioners.

It’s important we do all our thinking now, as we’ll be too busy to think when we get older (Y5 girl, reflecting on P4C)

Note: This course is available to schools within Enfield, prioritising the designated teacher for looked-after and previously looked-after children
