Year 2: Writing - a comprehensive guide to making teacher assessment judgements at the end of Year 2

Aims

A comprehensive guide to making accurate judgements of writing standards and understanding the teacher assessment guidance.  

This course is ideal for teachers who are teaching Y2 or new to Year 2.

This course, is aimed at giving teachers who have not yet experienced Y2 assessments a detailed overview of the guidance and the ‘Teacher assessment frameworks at the end of Key Stage 1’. The purpose of the course is to support accurate teacher judgements, and to identify priorities for classroom practice to enhance pupil achievement.

We will explore National materials and STA training exercises designed to support accurate teacher assessment judgements especially the standards Expected and Greater depth.

Course participants will:

·        be fully aware of the Non-Statutory Guidance for assessment and the changes for 2023-4. Have a detailed understanding of the Teacher assessment framework for writing at the end of Key Stage 1.

·        be confident that their teacher assessment judgements for writing standards will be rigorous, secure, and consistent with National standards and expectations so that they are able to have accurate handover conversations with the Y3 teacher.

Overview

Pre-course task: Some printing of materials prior to the session would be beneficial for participants (though not compulsory and documents can be viewed on screen). An email of recommended printouts will be sent a few days before the session.

Please note:
This training is ideal for teachers who have not recently attended moderators training - certainly in the 2022 or 2023 cycles but may not be suitable for teachers who have attended recent training and already have a comprehensive knowledge of the STA Training materials.

This course is free to maintained schools, including VA and to Academies that have moderators. Academies and Independent schools - £95
