Safeguarding Briefing - 8th March 2021

Andrew Hall

Dear Colleague,

All children return to school

A short Safeguarding Briefing this week, I'll let you concentrate on getting sorted out. I hope today, and the rest of term, goes as well as possible.

Although there have been lots of heros during this pandemic, my focus is on you. From the earliest days last March, you have embraced the young people and families that you serve, and have responded incredibly. In the live DSL CPD session I lead, I ask 'what are you proud of in your work'. I have been astonished and so impressed with the examples I have been given.

Whilst I don't know how things will pan out over time, I do know that the skills, solutions and new safeguarding responses that you and your teams have developed will have a long-lasting legacy.

Safe and happy during lockdown? - Poster (LGfL)

LGfL's safeguarding and cybersecurity manager, Mark Bentley, has created a poster asking students to think about how they felt during lockdown.

Mark says, 'As school buildings begin to welcome those back who haven’t been in for months, take the opportunity to find out how safe and happy they were in lockdown.'

The poster may prompt disclosures, so it will need to be used sensitively. Students may need to be reminded about who they can talk to, and how to do that.

Find out more about the poster, and download a copy, here: https://safeblog.lgfl.net/2021/03/safe-post-lockdown/

Reopening of Schools - Online Safety Considerations (SWGfL)

SWGfL has drawn together a list of things to think about in safeguarding as schools welcome all children back from lockdown.

Education Support Helpline

It is anticipated that there will be an increase in referrals and disclosures after lockdown is removed for pupils. This may result more work and perhaps a feeling of overwhelm.

Remember that the Education Support Helpline is there for anyone involved in education at any level, from nursery to Higher Education.

I always recommend that everyone adds the number to their phone, just in case.

Under certain circumstances, Education Support can also offer financial assistance: https://www.educationsupport.org.uk/helping-you/apply-grant

Helpline number: 08000 562561

We have moved - Change of address

We are moving today to a new office a few miles away. From a business perspective, lockdown has certainly taught us that we can be just as effective working from home, so we have down-sized. A special thanks to Emma, Hollie and Chiara for their work over the last year, hopefully we'll be back in the office together soon.

From Monday, 8th March 2021, our new address for any correspondence is:

The Epicentre
Haverhill Research Park
The Epicentre Enterprise Way
Haverhill
Cambridge
CB9 7LR

Note that cheque payments should still be sent directly to our finance department whose address is printed on the invoices.
