School Climate Action Network 24th June 2021

FAO: All Schools

Enfield Council declared a climate emergency in 2019 and the council has committed to becoming a carbon neutral organisation by 2030 and a carbon neutral borough by 2040.

Enfield’s schools make up more than a quarter of the council’s carbon emissions and we are setting up a new network to support schools to take climate action and reduce these emissions.

Climate action can be incorporated into every aspect of school life, from curriculum, to estate management, to how you support families to get to and from school in a way which maximises their health and minimises their carbon footprint.

Following our successful first network event in March, we are holding our next event 3.30 – 5pm on Thursday 24th June.

The purpose of the network is to bring together school and council officers to help develop ways in which we can support schools-based climate action across the borough.

You will:

  • Find out the different ways in which the council can support you in taking climate action
  • Hear from other schools about the action they’re taking
  • Find out about national and local initiatives and programmes to help you to take action
  • Share your views on how the council can develop our offer and work with you to continue to facilitate learning between schools on climate action.

At this event on 24th June we’re planning to focus on:

  • Reducing waste and increasing recycling and composting on your school site
  • Active and sustainable travel to and from school
  • Youth-led climate action.

If you would be interested in presenting to colleagues on the network about what your school is doing on any of these areas, please get in touch with us at climate.emergency@Enfield.gov.uk
