Schools Climate Action: Tree planting with Thames21 and the Green School Project

FAO: All Schools / All Phases

Dear School Climate Action Network

I hope you are all having a good term so far.

There are two exciting new opportunities for your school to take part in this term – please have a read and see if you can get involved.

Tree planting with Thames21

Enfield Council are working with Thames21 on the biggest woodland creation projects in London -  planting 100,000 trees in Enfield Chase.

Thames21 are offering schools:

  • A classroom session or assembly focussing on trees and the associated benefits to planting more of them; reduced flood risk, climate mitigation, improved water quality and greater social wellbeing
  • A tree planting activity in your school grounds
  • A trip to Enfield Chase to get involved in the planting there

Please have a look at the attached for more information and how to book your school a place.

Green Schools Project

Green Schools Project would like to notify Enfield Schools of the launch of their remote Zero Carbon Schools Programme from September. The programme is fully funded and provides schools with an educational opportunity to involve pupils in the school's journey towards zero carbon emissions, empowering them to tackle climate change and lead projects to reduce their school's carbon footprint. The programme includes:

• Session plans and resources suitable for years 4-9.
• A monthly ‘how to’ session for teachers delivering the programme.
• A buddy and peer support system.
• Support to calculate the school's carbon footprint.

If you are interested, please contact Beth Newman on beth.newman@greenschoolsproject.org.uk and she will send over an information sheet and school agreement.
