Enfield Youth Elections – January 2023

ALL Enfield secondary schools including SEN schools/settings – Head Teacher, Deputy Head Teacher, Phase leader, PSHE Lead, Head of Year, Pastoral staff

The Enfield Youth Elections will take place in January 2023. We are seeking 25-27 young people to be part of the next Enfield Youth Council representing their area, as well as 2 UK Youth Parliament members. We require schools to encourage and promote the process.

The Enfield Youth Elections (EYE) represents an elected group of 11-17-year-olds and up to 25 with SEND from across Enfield whose role is to represent the views of young people at both a local and national level. If young people choose to put themselves forwards, they can become candidates for both Enfield Youth Council elections and the UK Youth Parliament election.

What will the elected Enfield Youth Council Members and UK Youth Parliament members do? And why should students get involved?

  • EYC Members are extremely important to Enfield Parliament. They will sit on the Enfield Youth Council which meet monthly working on campaigns, projects and initiatives to make Enfield a better place for young people.
  • They will represent the views of children and young people on important boards and meetings.
  • They will consult with young people in school and outside to make sure their views are represented.
  • They will take part in training and will be accredited for the work that they do.

What’s in it for schools?

  • It’s a fantastic accolade to be part of Enfield Youth Democratic structure.
  • It’s important that all the schools are represented so that issues can be fed up to the Enfield Youth Parliament, as well as various meetings they attend e.g. Children’s Trust Board, Children’s Services Scrutiny Panel and the Enfield Strategic Partnership Board.
  • By Electing EYP Member school will demonstrate to Ofsted that they are engaged with the wider community, and they have a good level of citizenship and participation work taking place in the school.
  • Opportunity to work with and lobby Councillors on behalf of school.
