FAO: Headteachers, DSL’s & Designated Teachers for LAC and PLAC (all Enfield Schools, all phases and specials).

On behalf of Malaika Williams, Virtual School Assistant Head for Vulnerable Children

As you start preparing for the end of term, we just wanted to bring some important information to your attention.

  • Virtual School Survey

Please take a few moments to complete our (brief) online survey.  This will help us to develop our service to schools and young people.   https://forms.office.com/e/eLY0giANZc

  • DSL/SMHL Network Meeting/Working Group for Improving the Educational Outcomes of Children with a Social Worker

The first session will take place (virtually) on Tuesday 11th July from 11:00 – 13:00pm.  We will be exploring the outcomes of the Children in Need Review and developing school-based strategies to support improving the educational outcomes of children with a social worker. Please contact Malaika.Williams@enfield.gov.uk to reserve your space.

  • Coffee Morning for Special Guardian Carers

This will be taking place on Wednesday 5th July 2023 from 10 – 11.30 am at West Lea School, (Haselbury Campus), see flyer attached and feel free to distribute this to your families and add to your newsletters.

  • Summer University Early Bird referral

See attached information from Enfield’s LBE Youth & Families Support Service regarding Summer University activities for young people.  Professionals can refer vulnerable young people (see below) prior to the sessions being opened to the public (8th July).   The Youth Service is also happy to come into schools and do assemblies etc re their summer offer (Please contact Yemi)

  • Holiday Activities and Food Programme

Please see details of Enfield’s Holiday activities.  Eligible young people from Reception  - Year 11, living in Enfield and in receipt of free school meals can access free activities during the summer holiday period https://www.enfield.gov.uk/services/children-and-education/holiday-activity-and-food-programmes

  • Don’t forget!!!!!!   The deadline for completion of the Summer term PEPs is Friday, 30th June 2023 (12th May for Year 11)

We are excited to bring you the Summer Uni 2023 programme. Please see attached the full brochure for Summer Uni 2023.  Managers, please cascade this email to your teams.

We have a huge range of activities and workshops to take part in, and the young people you work with have first option to sign up. You have over 3 weeks priority booking, until the offer is open to the public on  Saturday 8th July 2023.

This early sign up option is for professional referrals only.  Attached is an referral form for the young person, and your own details. Make sure that all of the information requested is filled in, you would also need to complete the online form with the young person present or with the young person’s consent . If the full information is not provided on the referral form and online then the young person will not be allocated a place. Therefore, you will need to complete both.

Once I receive your completed forms, (one per young person) I will be in touch with you / the young person,  to make sure the young person is happy with their choices (up to 3 activities for the summer) and that they are comfortable with getting to the venue etc.

It is really important that the referral  process is carried out with the young person’s involvement and young people are not referred without their knowledge. If a young person is referred without their knowledge the referrer department  will be charged a £25 admin fee (please ensure you add the cost code for your team).  You will not be charged  if the young person does not turn up only if the young person was not aware of the referral

Please feel free to contact me with any questions, I will be happy to help you and ensure that engagement is maximised and the offer is taken up to provide the best outcomes for our young people.

The brochure looks brilliant and is full of great opportunities!  Enjoy.
