Members Required for Independent Review Hearings (IRP’s)

For all Headteachers and Governors

The School Appeals Service are looking for Headteachers and Governors, to join our pool of panel members, specifically for Independent Review Panel Hearings (IRP’s).

IRP’s contribute to a robust process of scrutiny to ensure that exclusions are lawful, reasonable, and procedurally fair.

The IRP is made up of three people, one from each of the following groups:

  • A Lay Member who acts as the Chairman. This person will not have worked in any school in a paid capacity (they could have been a Governor or volunteer);
  • A School Governor who has served as a Governor for at least 12 consecutive months in the last five years; and
  • A current Head teacher or retired Head teacher (within the last 5 years)

The role of the IRP is to consider the evidence and assess whether a pupil’s exclusion has been lawful, reasonable, and procedurally fair and what further action might need to be taken.

If you are interested in becoming part of the IRP members and would like further information, please contact the School Appeals Service sai@enfield.gov.uk or call 0208 379 3422.
