Early Years SEND Team

About
Early Years SEND Team is a multi-disciplinary team which is part of the Enfield Education Service. It supports schools in meeting the developmental needs of children facing difficulties in a range of areas.
Service Includes support around:
- Social, emotional and mental health (SEMH)
- Motor development
- Sensory processing
- Speech, language and communication (SLC)
The team is made up of colleagues from Health and Education and includes specialists in:
- Nurture groups and attachment difficulties
- Makaton and augmented communication
- Communicate in print and visual learning
- Multi-sensory and kinaesthetic learning
- Speech and language therapist
- Occupational therapist
- Physiotherapist
Much of the work is dedicated to early intervention, as well as enabling settings to meet the needs of children and young people who are at a delayed developmental stage. We work in a way which is flexible, responding to emerging priorities.
Supporting schools in the implementation of three evidence-based, tried and tested interventions across Early Years and Key Stages 1, 2 and 3:
- Nurture Groups
- Language and Social Skills groups (LASS)
- Tiger Teams
Packages
Nurture Groups for children with attachment or relational trauma needs:
- NG central training events
- Central termly review meetings
- Annual Monitoring
- Up to one half-day universal visit from SaLT, OT, PT, Makaton Lead, Sensory Lead
- Up to 1-day Learning Consultant support (in group, interviews, staff training etc)
Language and Social Skills (LASS) Group Support Package
LASS is an intervention for pupils with moderate SLC or SEMH needs (Early years, KS1 or KS2)
LASS Plus is an intervention for children with more significant levels of need
What is included:
- LASS Model, planning, assessment and record keeping pack
- Pupil selection and paperwork support
- One supported LASS session
- Access to universal advice from SaLT, OT, PT, Makaton Lead, Visual Learning Lead, Learning Consultant
- Data analysis and recommendations at end of intervention
- Up to approx. 1 day EYSI input, plus 3 training events
For 1 group, there is no charge to Enfield schools and academies except where extra support is requested which is chargeable at £500 per day. This is also the rate to support for optional additional groups.
Tiger Team Model, Assessment & Support
Tiger team is a gross motor skills development programme, created by PT/ OT and education colleagues. It is adaptable within EYFS and Primary phases.

- Timely OT and PT input for children not progressing as expected
- Annual audit, data analysis and recommendations at end of intervention
- Up to approx. 1 day access to EYSI
Initial training is not charged to school. £50 is charged for each subsequent face-to-face training to enhance provision.
