Critically Extremely Vulnerable (CEV) Staff
Message from Peter Nathan
Dear Headteacher/Principal,
I hope you were able to have a good and restful half-term. I am writing to you as it is likely we will be in a national lockdown for a month from this Thursday and there are a number of implications already of which we are aware.
Critically Extremely Vulnerable (CEV) Staff – guidance on this staff group will change from Thursday saying that they should work from home. This is the staff who were previously shielding but you now may have additional staff who would fall into this category. The expectation is that these staff should provide medical evidence that they fall into the category but this may be difficult for some staff to obtain so our advice is to ask staff to provide the medical evidence from the previous period of lockdown. Please see the link to the guidance - https://www.gov.uk/guidance/new-national-restrictions-from-5-november#going-to-work . This may well impact on your school’s staffing capacity:
- You will need to consider how many staff are CEV. How will this impact on your school’s ability to stay open?
- For staff who are clinically vulnerable, you will need to review their individual risk assessments although the assumption would be that they would remain in school.
- If you think you will need to close your school as you will not have enough staffing capacity, could you let Jo Fear by Wednesday morning or asap
- If you think you will need to move to a rota system, could you let Jo Fear know also by Wednesday morning or asap.
We are expecting further advice very shortly and I will write to you with any further implications for schools as soon as we are informed. If you have any questions, please contact myself or Sarah Fryer.
Best wishes
Peter Nathan
