Materials to Support the Transition of Vulnerable Children Returning to School

FAO: All Schools, SENDCOs. Designated Teacher for LAC, Pastoral Leads

Dear all,

Please find attached updated Virtual School guidance and documents for Social Workers to forward to carers, to support the transition of Looked After Children & other vulnerable children (PLAC, CiN and those children with a CP plan) back to school.

It includes

  1. Guidance for carers and SW’s on the return to school
  2. Transitions in the context of COVID  - Virtual School statement regarding easing of lockdown and return to education (most relevant to carers of LAC).
  3. Individual Transition Plan which we recommend schools use to plan the reintegration of vulnerable children and share with social workers (and the Virtual School for LAC children only).
  4. Transition Booklet – Designed for carers to use with younger children to help prepare them for the return to school.
  5. Reintegration- Post COVID – Designed for the carers of older vulnerable children to use to help prepare them for the return to school.
  6. I need you to ….  A blog put together by trauma experienced children outlining their feelings about education and their school experiences.
  7. Going back to school Social Story – Designed to support carers of children with SEND to explain the return to school.

Kind regards
