The Ministry of Defence Local Authority Partnership (MODLAP) is a group of senior Children’s Services officers, representing the 16 English local authorities with the highest numbers of armed forces children. Its members have committed to work in partnership to improve the educational experience and outcomes of children from armed forces families across England.

MODLAP knows from Service Pupil Premium data that almost every local authority serves children from armed forces families.  In the Enfield local authority area, there are currently have 20 children from armed forces families, spread across 5 secondary schools. A key current driver for MODLAP's work is the Andrew Selous MP report, Living in Our Shoes.  It sought to review the diverse needs of Service families, assess whether the current support offer was meeting these needs, and make recommendations accordingly.  This was published in June 2020 and the work of MODLAP was centrally featured within Chapter 4 'Growing up in the military'.  You can view a copy of this report at this link

The MOD and DfE have accepted most of the recommendations made within Chapter 4 and are currently working with partners to implement the proposed changes put forward by the report’s authors.
