NEW ONLINE COURSE - Safeguarding Refresher

I've had a few emails recently, asking about an online course for staff who may have missed the safeguarding training at the beginning of September. I have now completed and uploaded a course that I think will be helpful for following up with existing staff who missed their annual training slot. However, I've also designed the course for staff or volunteers who join your school during the academic year.

For savings throughout the year, it is best to purchase access codes in packs of 10 or 25 and pay as little as £12 per person. (Codes must be used by 31st July 2024)

The course consists of two parts, each around 45 mins long, and the content includes:

  • Definition of Safeguarding
  • An effective safeguarding model
  • More vulnerable groups of children
  • The Safeguarding System
  • What are the risks for the young people you work with
  • The four different types of abuse and neglect
  • Learning from serious case reviews
  • Harmful Sexual Behaviour
  • Dealing with a disclosure
  • An escalating response
  • Female Genital Mutilation
  • FGM - who should report
  • Mental Health
  • Filtering and Monitoring
  • How you can HELP

A certificate of completion is issued by email at the end.

Social Media Guidance for New Teachers - SWGfL

Social media, although a potential danger in many ways, does have some helpful aspects. Afterall, if it didn't it would be so popular in modern society. It is almost certain that its utility in schools for productive purposes will one day be as expansive as it is in the business sector. As a result some educational professionals may wish to get ahead of the curve on this matter. But where to start? How to utilize its good aspects without creating unnecessary vulnerability windows for your educational establishment. To answer these questions and many more the South-West Grid for Learning (SWGfL), has published a page on their site about how to use social media in a constructive way, in your educational establishment. NEW TOOLKIT FROM BROOK - Spotting Child Exploitation Toolkit

Identifying if child exploitation in either its criminal or sexual form can be a minefield. Its identifiers are often difficult to detect, but as with everything early intervention is key to preventing the occurrence of child exploitation. Which is why every effort must be made to uncover it if possible. Unfortunately it is often not that simple, and can descend into unforeseen complexities. Brook, an organisation focusing on matters of sexual health and wellbeing has released a suite of tools aimed at helping professionals to investigate suspected cases of child exploitation. Success for Kitt Medical - Kitt Medical

You may recall that several months ago we covered a company called Kitt Medical. The company had developed a portable rapid action solution to the issue of allergic attacks in schools. Their solution composing a wall-mounted kit containing emergency adrenaline pens, to turn around cases of severe allergic reactions. Recently their product was used successfully to great effect after a severe allergic reaction hit 14-year-old Ava, after a dance rehearsal at school. The story has been covered by national media, and it's great to see such a brilliant product getting coverage. If you're interested in finding out more about their product, then please follow the link below:

Forthcoming Courses

Advanced Safeguarding for DSLs

This is a four-session course for DSLs over a full-day. The course is offered live and as a recorded replay. When the course is live, there are plenty of opportunities to contribute with observations, questions or answers. As a recording, the interactions from other people are included and feedback notes that this makes it feel like you are not on your own.

"I just wanted to say that I thought todays training was absolutely fantastic. By a mile it was the most engaging training I have done."

"I came to a session in Birmingham back in 2019 (the day after the GE I think) and it was superb. Today [online] was just as good, if not better. The use of video mixed with live speaking was excellent and goes way beyond what other safeguarding courses provide. You've been there and done it, and your openness with your own story is inspirational."

LIVE ON LOCATION remember that you can book Andrew to visit your school, cluster or MAT to share his DSL course. Please contact us for details and bookings.

If we could, we would give it 10 stars! That was the best Safeguarding training we have ever had, thank you so much. Feedback from staff has, so far, been overwhelmingly positive…I can't thank you enough."

"I would like to extend my thanks to Andrew for his fantastic online training. It was filmed so well - almost as if he were here with us! We were kept engaged throughout and felt so well informed - a huge thank you. It was a real success, and we look forward to booking you again in the future - with the staff team saying it was the best safeguarding training they have ever had.
