Inspection Data Summary Report (IDSR) Update - September 2026

For all Schools

Ofsted has updated the Inspection Data Summary Report (IDSR) for all schools with the DfE's 2026 spring school census, a new similar schools' comparator for achievement, and a number of format changes. IDSR: news and updates - GOV.UK

What's included in the 1 September 2026 IDSR release?

This release contains:

  • 2026 spring school census with CLA data (latest CIN update in next release)
  • Latest stability data
  • Latest school workforce census data
  • Latest alternative provision placements data

Developments to the IDSR

Reordering and format changes

  • Summary tables prioritised
  • Charts moved to a new annex
  • New attendance and behaviour summary tables

New similar schools' comparator for achievement

  • New analysis to compare your school to a unique group of 50 similar schools to further contextualise achievement outcomes
  • The data will not be used to make grading decisions; instead, it will add an extra layer of information to support inspectors' understanding of a school's context and help with discussions around achievement and pupils' progress

Further change

Ofsted has changed the prior attainment groups used for its 16 to 18 value-added data to align with the prior attainment groups used by the DfE.

Upcoming IDSR releases

The next IDSR releases are planned for late September and early October 2026 and will include:

  • Provisional KS2 data
  • 1-term absence data
  • 3-term exclusions data
  • Latest daily attendance data
  • Provisional phonics data
  • Spring census refresh with latest CIN data
